![]() Loud static noise emitted from the speaker. Michael crawled off the dust covered couch wincing in pain momentarily as he sat up and lifted the phone. Beyond that photo, they were strangers to him now. Faces he had captured in a singular Polaroid that he kept with him for 30 years. The one picture looked down at him on the couch with the pale faded faces. The house was already bare enough as it was, only one family portrait was hung in the room, the rest of the pictures stored in various photo albums. Surprisingly the house was in fairly good condition, apparently there weren’t any teenage delinquents in Hurricane after he moved out to break in and mess the place up. The same old vertical striped wallpaper faded by the sun, peeling away from the ceiling. Maybe it was because he returned to this hell hole. He hasn’t had this nightmare in years, but now it was every damn night. He would never speak, only breathing slowly as he let out all his tears. He would ruffle up his hair and hold him close to his chest. ![]() He felt so small in his arms, crying like a little boy again in the shirt of the man he hated the most in the world. “Michael, you’re such a strong boy.” Those cyanide coated words he whispered as he clung to him. Couldn’t even remember her face but he wanted her back, wanted her back to tell him everything was alright and she loved him she forgave him. His finger caught on the glass and he sobbed, cried for his mother. Mum… I love you…” He wished every night he had told her one last time before. His mother crumbled in his arms again, red glass spilling across the tiles as he clutched her fading form. When she turned around at last Michael ran for her, holding her tightly in his arms. Her gold hair sat on her shoulders, perfect white blouse ironed to perfection. He pushed past the arms that held him back and into the still and quiet of the bathroom.
